The praise and worship songs on this site come out of more than 25 years
of growing and serving and sharing the gift of music with the people of
God. This includes harmonizing in choirs, singing at weddings, sharing
offeratories, performing musicals, ministering in youth and adult concerts,
and leading congregations in worship. But of all my musical endeavors,
songwriting is my favorite.
One night in 1994, I had a dream in which I received an encouraging letter
from a friend. When I awoke, it was forgotten. But all day at work, I had
this nagging, subconscious thought, "Where is that letter?"
Later, as I was performing a mindless task, I began to
receive some lyrics- whole verses at a time- and within minutes it was
done. As I read the finished draft, I heard the words, "This is the letter."
At first I was confused, because the form of the song did not resemble a letter from a friend. But as I re-read the words, my
eyes began to tear over with the realization God was using these lyrics
to encourage me to continue writing songs, for He would use them to inspire
others.
Motivation:
Many times before and since that day I have been exhorted by others to
share the musical gift God put inside me. Recently, I came across a quote
that moved me to renew my efforts to accomplish this...
"Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us." - Pcom Pete
I may never do anything considered "great" in the world's (or
the Church's) eyes. But I believe sharing this gift of music is one of
the things I am supposed to do before I die. May you be blessed by it!
